Prescription without value in add/near column
As you can see on the prescription above there is no value in the add/near section. This means that you do not require any additional help for focusing at reading distances. This is generally those under 40 years of age who haven’t yet experienced presbyopia (loss of ability to focus on nearby objects).
SUITABLE LENS TYPE
*FREE FORM DISTANCE
*FREE FORM READING
On this example of a prescription, you can see there is a value in the add/near section. This means that the wearer will require additional power in the lens to focus at reading distances. This is generally applicable to those who are 40+ years of age and are experiencing a gradual loss of ability to focus on close objects such as reading a book.
The added power is simply added to the general distance prescription to give you your reading prescription.
